THE INTROVERT ENTRPRENUER
I have constantly heard that if you want to be a good business owner you have to be personable, outgoing, engaging, and inviting. You have to be someone that people trust and want to buy from. All of those are great traits to have, but what if you don’t naturally possess those qualities? I have to be honest, I don’t! I am a total introvert. An introvert is commonly described as a person that tends to be more quiet, reserved, and introspective. If you go to a party or social gathering and see someone standing alone or secluding themselves from the rest of the group, then they are more than likely an introvert.
Imagine having a business but being too shy or afraid to speak to others about it. For a long time that was my reality! In some ways it still is. Being an Introverted Entrepreneur is one of the hardest things I have ever dealt with in my life! As an entrepreneur you must constantly interact with people to sell your product or service. If you also create your own product or service, then you have to regularly put your creation out for the world to see and judge. Doing these tasks as an introvert is exhausting!
There are times when running my business is so overwhelming that I want to quit. Being placed outside of my comfort zone has consistently triggered my anxiety. Even though I still struggle with how my introversion affects me as an entrepreneur, I have made a lot of progress since I launched ONE4ALL. I made a decision that I was not going to allow my fears to get in the way of me pursuing my dreams.
Shortly after I launched my business, I hired a marketing coach. My coach helped me to establish my brand and worked to help me step out of my comfort zone to better connect with my audience and customers. I also turned to the word of God to help me battle my anxiety. My go to scriptures are Philippians 4:6-7. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (7) And the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” I meditate on these scriptures daily and I have experienced so much more peace with my business affairs. I also started therapy. Therapy has helped me tremendously with getting to the root of my anxiety, and better understanding my introversion.
If you’re an Introverted Entrepreneur and you feel like it is negatively affecting your business, you are not alone. You do not need to feel ashamed or beat yourself up. There is nothing wrong with being an introvert. So what if you’re not always the life of the party, you are wonderfully made in the image of God. He will give you the strength to overcome all of your fears. You have to step outside your comfort zone to be an entrepreneur, you do have to connect with people, and yes you do have to sometimes be present even when you don’t feel like it. However, you do not have to do it all alone. God is there with you every step of the way! You also have me! I would love to help and support you on your entrepreneurial journey. There are also other Introverted Entrepreneurs that know exactly what you are going through. I have decided to create a platform to connect Introverted Entrepreneurs with one another. Details about that project will be coming very soon, so stay tuned! In the meantime, if you want to connect with me you can reach out to me via:
